Bradley Charles Cooper was born January 5, 1975, in Abington Township (near Philadelphia), Pennsylvania, and grew up in the nearby communities of Jenkintown and Rydal.
His mother, Gloria (née Campano) Cooper, worked for a local NBC affiliate (KYW-TV) and is of Italian descent — her family background traces to southern Italy (regions including Abruzzo and Naples). His father, Charles J. Cooper, worked as a stockbroker and is of Irish ancestry.
Cooper was raised Catholic, attended Germantown Academy, and graduated from Georgetown University in 1997 (he later studied acting in an MFA program). These early years in a Philadelphia-area, working/middle-class family shaped his path toward acting and filmmaking.
