Dean short bio

Born in Amsterdam, Huijsen moved with his family to Marbella, Spain, at about age five; his father, Donny Huijsen, is a former professional footballer. Dean grew up speaking multiple languages and developed through the youth system in Málaga before moving abroad. He obtained Spanish citizenship in 2024 and has said Spain feels like home.

Club career & rise

Huijsen progressed from Málaga’s academy to join Juventus’s youth set-up in 2021, then made his professional debut with Juventus Next Gen (the reserve side) in January 2023 and earned a Serie A first-team appearance later that year.

After a loan spell at AS Roma, he signed for AFC Bournemouth in July 2024 and became a regular starter in the Premier League — performances that attracted wider attention and led to a high-value transfer to Real Madrid in 2025.

International career

Huijsen represented the Netherlands at youth level but opted to represent Spain after naturalisation; he received his first Spain senior call-up in March 2025 and made his debut amid mixed reception when facing the Netherlands.
