Amanda Seyfried was born and raised in Allentown. Her mother, Ann (née Sander), worked as an occupational therapist, and her father, Jack Seyfried, worked as a pharmacist. She has an older sister, Jennifer. Public biographical sources describe her ancestry as predominantly German with smaller amounts of English, Scots-Irish and Welsh heritage.

Career & rise to prominence

Seyfried began modeling as a child and started acting in soap operas as a teenager before breaking out on film. Her early breakthrough came with the teen comedy Mean Girls (2004); she later rose to mainstream fame with leading roles in the musical Mamma Mia! and the period musical Les Misérables. In recent years she received major critical attention and awards recognition for performances in films such as Mank and for portraying Elizabeth Holmes in the limited series The Dropout.
