Gavi short bio

Gavi grew up in the town of Los Palacios y Villafranca in Andalusia and joined grassroots club La Liara in his early years before moving to Real Betis’s youth setup. In 2015 he entered FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, progressing rapidly through the youth ranks.

Club career & rise to prominence

He made his first-team debut for FC Barcelona in 2021 shortly after turning 17 and quickly established himself as a dynamic central midfielder noted for energy, passing and intelligence. Barcelona rewarded his progression with a long-term contract extension as he became a regular starter.

International career

Gavi received a surprise senior Spain call-up in September 2021 and made his debut the following month, becoming the youngest player to represent Spain at senior level. He scored his first senior international goal in June 2022, becoming the youngest goalscorer for Spain as well.

Recent developments

In 2025 Gavi underwent knee surgery for a meniscus injury and was expected to be sidelined for several months while recovering — a meaningful setback for the midfielder and for both club and country. Barcelona staff and coaches have publicly underlined his importance and the club’s hopes for a full recovery.
